Whew, this has all been a whirlwind since I started baking last month. I am excited to share an update with everyone —
I went from baking loaves for friends as Christmas/New Year’s gifts to applying for a business license the other day!!!
It’s the first step in my journey to explore what I can do as a baker in the future, and I’m excited, nervous, freaked out, ecstatic, and so curious to see what happens from here. While I’m still happily baking for friends, I’m also working full-time and still in school full-time. I would LOVE to just be creating new bakes 24/7, school is my priority in my free time. I’ll still be baking (a lot) but it will be my reward for studying!
I’m so, so grateful for all the support and kind words from my friends and family; there has been so much love and encouragement, I wouldn’t have ever thought my bread was good enough to warrant applying for a business license. And I will need help along the way…I still have branding to figure out, someone needs to explain how to worry about taxes as a sole proprietor (please explain it to me like I’m 5 years old…), etc.
Mostly, I need to give a shout out to my love – Ryan, you have been my biggest supporter and cheerleader. Getting me that book ignited my passion for baking, and I love that we have been spending more time in the kitchen baking and cooking together lately. I love all of your ideas, and I love that you’ve gently helped me keep my feet on the ground, encouraging me to not lose focus on school. Thank you, love.
So, what’s next? I’m not sure. I’m taking orders from friends and family only right now, obviously because there is lots of work to do before I can get my permits (business license was the first step!). I’ll continue to work on this website (including accessibility), branding, creating new things to offer, and of course, more baking.
Thank you for believing in me, friends! Let me know when you need more bread 🙂
Much love,
Elysia
